Dimitri from Paris

Bio:

Released in April 2000 to overwhelming international acclaim, A Night At The Playboy Mansion has become one of the most celebrated mix CDs in the dance music world.

Following Dimitri From Paris' memorable and widely-publicized set at the Playboy Mansion, the album has since become a best-seller, sealing Dimitri' s reputation as the prince of deluxe funk.

Keeping the Playboy Mansion concept rolling, Dimitri returns with a double CD set entitled, After The Playboy Mansion, featuring his trademark blend of cool retro grooves and contemporary house beats, digging deep into his extensive record collection to find rare and unreleased tracks and mixes. Several classic tracks by artists such as Ten City and Harold Melvin also feature exclusive Dimitri re-edits. This time he takes us “behind the scenes” at the Mansion with two companion discs, one an uplifting mix to keep the party flowing on the dancefloor and the other a laidback mix for those after-hours private get-togethers. The CD artwork features classic Playboy imagery from the 60' s – Playboy' s February 1967 cover with model Helen Kirk originally shot by Pompeo Posar.

Easily one of France' s most distinguished DJs and remixers, Dimitri from Paris reaches further back in time for his influences, compared to his compatriots in the new wave of French electronic music. Dimitri' s inspiration comes from the continental jet-setting faux jazz of the 50' s & early 60' s and 70' s groovier soundtracks.

Raised in France, though born in Turkey to Greek parents, Dimitri entered the dance music community in the mid 80' s while working at french radio station Radio 7. By 1990, his growing yet strongly established reputation allowed him to record soundtracks & advertising campaigns for fashion barons like Chanel, Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent and to remix for artists such as Bjork, Brand New Heavies, and Quincy Jones among many others. He released his debut album “Sacrebleu”, in 1998 and went on to sell several hundred thousand copies worldwide. This seminal album of soundtrack samples, jazz samba and soft house was actually not geared towards the dancefloor but toward the home for laid-back listening. Dimitri has continued to spin at clubs all over the globe, most notably at the seminal Parisian party “Respect” while staying in touch with his house/disco roots by putting out several mix albums including the infamous A Night At The Playboy Mansion and the exciting new follow-up, After The Playboy Mansion.
